Hawthorne Lofts is part of the Salem Schools project that also includes Residences at St. James. Salem Schools involves the adaptive reuse of two former schools into modern, energy-efficient, affordable housing. This project is currently under construction and is expected to be completed in January 2026.
Hawthorne Lofts is located in the heart of downtown Salem and offers all the amenities. Salem’s waterfront, Pickering Wharf, Salem Common, the Peabody Essex Museum, the Punto Urban Art Museum, the Essex Pedestrian Mall, and the MBTA commuter rail station are all within walking distance.
Hawthorne Lofts consists of a mix of 29 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments with a preference for artists. The building features large windows and high ceilings, providing lots of natural light. The former auditorium will be converted into 5,000 square feet of gallery space, including 10 micro studios and 2 sound studios, available for artists to rent. Residents will be given first preference for the studio space.
Hawthorne Lofts features apartments at 30%, 60%, and 80% of Area Median Income. All units have a preference for artists.
