The Residences at St. James is part of the Salem Schools project that also includes Hawthorne Lofts. Salem Schools involves the adaptive reuse of two former schools into modern and energy-efficient, affordable housing. The Residences at St James is currently under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
The Residences at St. James were formerly the St. James parochial school and feature large windows, high ceilings, and abundant natural light. Residents will enjoy amenities such as a community room, laundry facilities, an outdoor patio, and on-site parking. Located in the heart of the McIntire Historic District, residents will be just steps away from the Mayor Jean A. The Residences at St. James consists of a mix of 32 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments for those whose Head of Household or spouse of the Head of Household is 62 years of age or older. All 32 units will be fully affordable at a mix of 30% and 60% Area Median Income levels.
