CELEBRATING HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH!

September 23, 2026 (Salem) - A Message from our CEO, Felicia S. Pierce in collaboration with Shantel Alix, Director of Community Building.

From September 15 through October 15, we celebrate the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of our Hispanic and Latino communities. During this month, I also take time to learn more about the traditions and experiences of our neighbors and the many ways they have shaped so many of our communities on the North Shore. About one in five Salem residents identifies as Hispanic or Latino. (census.gov)

At North Shore CDC, I’m proud that Hispanic and Latino leaders serve in all areas of our organization, including our programs, senior leadership, Advisory Council, and Board of Directors. Their leadership and perspectives are part of how we serve our community.

You can also see these stories and perspectives throughout our Punto Urban Art Museum (PUAM) program, located in Salem’s Point neighborhood, where our art mirrors the experience of our artist and residents. Works such as Raíces | Roots, Muñecas Sin Rostro, and Casa de Abuela invite us to reflect on family, identity, and belonging. I’m excited that North Shore CDC is a cultural partner of the National Hispanic Cultural Center, alongside the City of Salem. This partnership opens the door to artist exchanges, educational programs, and celebrations shaped by our community.

La cultura nos une y la comunidad nos fortalece, culture unites us, and community makes us stronger. This month, I encourage you to visit the free award winning internationally recognized public art throughout the Punto Urban Art Museum, enjoy a walk through the community, visit a local Latino-owned business, attend community events, and take time to learn from the people whose leadership and contributions make our communities stronger.
